MATHEMATICS:

The name of our math series is Eureka Math. This series will deepen your child’s conceptual understandings through the use of visual tools, problem-based activities, and hands-on manipulatives. The domains of this program include (1) Sums and Differences to 10, (2) Place Value Through Addition and Subtraction to 20, (3) Ordering and Comparing Length Measurements as Numbers, (4) Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 40, (5) Identifying, Composing, and Partitioning of Shapes, and (6) Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 100. We will spend 60 minutes a day on mathematical instruction.

READING:  

The name of our reading series is Scott Foresman Reading Street. This program was designed by Common Core experts and proven successful in real classrooms. The program components include phonemic awareness, phonics, high-frequency words, text-based comprehension strategies, vocabulary, grammar conventions, and writing.  We will spend 2 hours and 30 minutes a day on English Language Arts instruction.

SCIENCE:

Our science curriculum is built around the Diocese of Baton Rouge Standards. We will focus on the topics of (1) Earth’s Place in the Universe, (2) Plant and Animal Structures and Processes, (3) Heredity and Inheritance of Variation of Traits, and (4) Waves and their Applications. Each topic goes into greater detail. We will learn various science terms, create art activities, conduct weekly experiments, and have weekly assessments. The assessments will be a review of what your child has learned from the weekly skill.  We will spend 45 minutes a day on Science.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

Our social studies curriculum is also built around the Diocese of Baton Rouge Standards. We will focus on the topics of (1) Historical Thinking Skills, (2) Historical People, Events, and Symbols, (3) Maps, Globes, and Environment, (4) Government and Citizenship, and (5) Basic Economic Concepts. Each topic goes into greater detail.  We will learn various terms, create many visuals, create hands-on and art activities, and have a daily quiz. The quiz will be a review of what your child has learned from the daily skill. We will spend 45 minutes a day on Social Studies.    

RELIGION:

The name of our Religion series is Sadlier We Believe.  We will spend 30 minutes a day focusing on Catechism of the Catholic Church as we learn about God, Jesus, Scripture, Saints, Feast Days, Prayers, and Devotions.

CENTERS AND SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION:

Students will engage in student-directed centers for 30 minutes each day.  While students are working on appropriate, independent activities, I will be rotating smaller groups of students to my “teacher-table” to help strengthen and enrich math and reading skills.
